DAY 1: ARRIVAL → KINABATANGAN

Pick-up Schedule

• 10:45 am: Pick-up from Wisma Khoo Chiew Siak
• 11:00 am to 11:15 am: Pick-up from Sandakan airport. For guests arriving by flight, please ensure your flight lands before 11:00 am to 11:15 am.
• 11:45 am: Pick-up from accommodation in the Sepilok area.

Your day begins at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, where you will have the opportunity to learn about the conservation and rehabilitation of orangutans. During the feeding session, you may see these remarkable primates as they come to the feeding platform from the surrounding rainforest. The centre also provides insights into ongoing research and conservation efforts to protect orangutans and other endangered wildlife in Borneo.

Continue to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, home to the world’s smallest bear species. Here, you can observe rescued sun bears living in a protected forest environment while learning about their behaviour, habitat, and the conservation work being carried out to safeguard the species.

Lunch will be served at Mango Garden Restaurant in Sepilok before departing for Tanini Kinabatangan, located within the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary. The journey takes approximately two hours, passing through Kota Kinabatangan town and extensive oil palm plantations.

Upon arrival at Kampung Bilit Jetty, a short boat transfer across the river brings you to the lodge. A welcome drink will be served, followed by a brief orientation and check-in to your chalet.

Later in the afternoon, head out on a river cruise along the Kinabatangan River. This is one of the best ways to search for wildlife and birdlife, including proboscis monkeys, macaques, hornbills, crocodiles, and many other species that inhabit the river ecosystem.

After returning to the lodge, enjoy dinner before joining a guided night walk. The walk offers a chance to observe sleeping birds and various nocturnal creatures that become active after dark.

DAY 2: KINABATANGAN → SANDAKAN

Wake up to the natural sounds of the rainforest, often accompanied by calls from gibbons and hornbills. Before breakfast, enjoy a final river cruise along the Kinabatangan River for another opportunity to spot wildlife and birds in their natural habitat.

After breakfast, check out from the lodge and begin the journey back to Sandakan. You will be transferred either to your accommodation in Sandakan or to Sandakan Airport for your onward flight.
