DAY 1: ARRIVAL → KINABATANGAN

Pick-up Schedule

• 10:45 am: Pick-up from Wisma Khoo Chiew Siak
• 11:00 am to 11:15 am: Pick-up from Sandakan airport. For guests arriving by flight, please ensure your flight lands before 11:00 am to 11:15 am.
• 11:45 am: Pick-up from accommodation in the Sepilok area

Guests will gather at Mango Garden Restaurant in Sepilok before beginning the journey to Tanini Kinabatangan, located within the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary. The drive takes around two hours, passing through Kota Kinabatangan town and extensive oil palm plantations along the way.

Upon arrival at Kampung Bilit Jetty, a short boat transfer across the river brings you to the lodge. A welcome drink will be served, followed by a brief introduction to the lodge and its surrounding environment. After checking into your chalet, you can relax before heading out for an afternoon river cruise.

The cruise offers an opportunity to spot wildlife and birdlife along the Kinabatangan River. Keep an eye out for proboscis monkeys, macaques, hornbills, crocodiles, and other wildlife that inhabit the area.

Back at the lodge, enjoy dinner surrounded by the natural setting of Kampung Bilit’s secondary rainforest. In the evening, join a guided night walk to discover a different side of the jungle, where you may encounter sleeping birds and various nocturnal creatures.

DAY 2: KINABATANGAN → DAY ACTIVITIES

Wake up to the peaceful atmosphere of the Kinabatangan River, often covered by a layer of morning mist. A morning river cruise provides another excellent opportunity to observe wildlife as the rainforest comes alive for the day. Depending on the conditions, you may see proboscis monkeys, leaf monkeys, macaques, gibbons, hornbills, and even wild orangutans.

After breakfast, venture into the rainforest on a guided jungle walk led by an experienced nature guide. This walk offers a closer look at the area’s rich biodiversity, including insects, birds, and tropical plants. You will also explore trails used by the Borneo Pygmy Elephant, the smallest elephant species in the world.

Return to the lodge for lunch and some free time to rest before the day’s second river cruise. The afternoon cruise explores different sections of the Kinabatangan River, providing more chances to spot wildlife and enjoy the scenery.

Dinner will be served at the lodge. Later in the evening, join another guided night walk along a different route, allowing you to experience more of the rainforest’s nocturnal wildlife.

DAY 3: KINABATANGAN → SANDAKAN

The sounds of gibbons and hornbills often provide a natural wake-up call in the rainforest. Before breakfast, enjoy one final river cruise to search for more wildlife and birdlife along the Kinabatangan River.

After breakfast, check out from the lodge and begin the journey back to Sandakan. You will be transferred either to your accommodation in Sandakan or to Sandakan Airport for your onward flight.
