The 3D2N schedule is shown below. For 2D1N, the route is the same. Day 1 and Day 2 are combined into a single climbing day (without extra stay at Kundasang Resort or Kinabalu Park area).

What’s covered
No ambiguity. Everything in the package price is listed below.
Honest answers to what people actually ask
Most of our climbers are regular people, not athletes. If you can walk 15–20km in a day and handle sustained uphill terrain, you can attempt this climb. We recommend 4–6 weeks of preparation: staircase training, weekend hikes, or cardio. The 3D2N option gives you better odds if you’re less confident about fitness.
It happens. Altitude sickness and fatigue stop some climbers before the top and that’s a legitimate, sensible outcome. If you can’t continue safely, your guide will escort you down. Permits are non-refundable once issued by Sabah Parks, but we’ll do everything possible to give you a genuine attempt. The 3D2N package significantly improves summit success rate.
No mountain is without risk, but Kinabalu is one of the best-managed high-altitude routes in Southeast Asia. Sabah Parks maintains the trail and operates a mountain rescue team. The main risks are altitude sickness and fatigue — both are manageable with honest pacing and a guide who puts your safety above the group schedule.
Clothing is the most important thing to get right. Temperatures at Laban Rata drop to around 10°C and at the summit can feel closer to 0°C with wind chill, especially during the 2am push. Dress in layers: a moisture-wicking base layer, a fleece or mid-layer, and a windproof or waterproof outer jacket. Bring gloves and a beanie, your hands and ears will feel the cold on the exposed granite section.
For footwear, wear sturdy hiking boots or trail shoes with good grip. The trail is rocky and can be wet in sections.Â
Other essentials: a headlamp with fresh batteries (critical for the summit push), at least 1.5–2 litres of water, high-energy snacks such as nuts, chocolate, or energy bars, a small daypack, and a lightweight rain poncho. Trekking poles are optional but helpful on the descent.
If the weather conditions become unsafe, the climb may be delayed, temporarily suspended, or cancelled by the park authorities for safety reasons. This usually happens during heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, or poor visibility near the summit of Mount Kinabalu.
If climbers are already on the mountain, the mountain guides and park rangers will advise whether to continue, wait, or descend depending on the situation. Safety decisions are made by the authorities and guides on-site.
In some cases, summit attempts may not be allowed even if climbers have already reached the overnight accommodation area due to dangerous weather conditions near the peak.
Yes, children and older adults can climb Mount Kinabalu, provided they are physically fit and in good health.
For children, the climb is generally recommended for those who are active, able to handle long hours of trekking, and comfortable with steep stair sections. Young climbers should always be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Older adults also regularly complete the climb successfully. Many senior climbers have reached the summit, but good stamina, proper preparation, and a steady pace are important. Anyone with medical conditions such as heart problems, breathing difficulties, or severe joint issues should consult a doctor before attempting the climb.
The climb is demanding due to the altitude, steep terrain, and long trekking hours, so physical preparation is strongly recommended for all age groups.
At Mount Kinabalu, Walk the Torq and the Low’s Peak Circuit are two very different experiences.
Walk the Torq:
This is a guided via ferrata activity attached to the summit climb. It is designed for beginners and first-time via ferrata participants. The route is shorter, less physically demanding, and follows secured steel cables, ladders, and mountain-edge pathways after sunrise near the summit area. It adds an adventure element to the climb without requiring advanced technical climbing skills.
Low’s Peak Circuit:
This is the highest and more challenging via ferrata route on the mountain. It is longer, more exposed, and significantly more demanding physically and mentally. The circuit includes steep sections, suspension bridges, cliff traverses, and higher levels of exposure. It is recommended for climbers with strong fitness levels and those comfortable with heights and endurance activities.
In short:
Both activities require advance booking and are guided by certified via ferrata trainers.
